Obituary

Judith Marie (Laho) Krey (“Judy”), age 78, of Deer Park, WA passed away peacefully at home early Monday morning August 17, 2026. Judy was born in Hancock, MI on May 25, 1948, daughter of the late Eric and Lillian (Belttari) Laho. Judy graduated from Hancock Central High, attended Michigan Tech, where she met Timothy (“Tim”) Krey, the love of her life. They married on May 30, 1970, and after her “MRS” and “MOM”, she earned her Master’s in biology from Eastern Michigan University. Judy and Tim started their married life in the UP (L’Anse, MI). They subsequently made homes in Rochester NY, Houghton MI, Boulder CO, Pensacola FL, Guntersville AL, Detroit MI, Lowell IN, North Aurora IL and finally Deer Park WA. After her children began school, Judy worked as a phlebotomist and then taught biology and the medical assistant program at Waubonsee Community College for 15 years. Judy enjoyed singing, visiting and many hobbies. She was very artistic and creative with painting, drawing, sewing, crocheting, decorating. Pink and purple were her favorite colors. She enjoyed time with family, friends and neighbors. Her faith was a very important part of her life. She was a member of the Laestadian Lutheran Church of Spokane and enjoyed many activities with the “Spokane Oldies”. Judy was 4’11” with 3” heels, wore a size 3 shoe and had a lot of “Sisu” in her small package. Her birth weight was 1# 12oz (went down to 1# 6oz). The doctor didn’t expect her to survive, simply placed her in an incubator with oxygen flowing. The next morning the doctor found she had scooted toward the oxygen and said “This one is a fighter”, then gave care and feeding instructions. This “Sisu” continued during her long battle with Alzheimers. She was lovingly cared for by husband Tim with assistance of caregivers (Debbie and Robin, plus additional staff from Home Instead since early 2023), and support from “Oldies”, friends and family. God granted Tim’s wish to care for her in their home as long as possible. Judy is survived by her husband, Tim, son James “Jim” (Maria) of AZ, daughter Renee (Dan) Osborne of WA; grandchildren Loren (Ashley) Krey of CO, Andrew (Katie) Krey of MN, Kaitlyn (Tyler) Davis of WA and Jared Osborne of WA, great-grandchildren, Lyla, Aleah, Claira, Weston & Oliver CO and Waylon, Jocelyn, Hudson, Alec, Beau & Kennan of MN, brother Rick (Barb) Laho of MN, sister Janet (Mike) Stonelake of SD, brother Joe (Kathy) Laho of MN, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dave and Alfred, sisters Beth and Gloria, and brother-in-law Kevin Simonson (her “birthday twin” Janet’s first husband).
