Floyd Harold Parker

Floyd, Age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, surrounded by nurses and caretakers at Pine Ridge Alzheimer's Care Center in Spokane Valley. He was preceded in death by his son Corey in August 2017, by his brothers Les and Roy and his sister Jean Rickey.

Floyd leaves behind Meg Parker, his wife of 24 years, his two beloved daughters Lori (Kenn) Bennett and Cherie (Dave) Boss and stepsons Mike Dicken (Kandy) and Rob Dicken. He loved his ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Floyd grew up in Spokane Valley and after graduation from Central Valley High School he attended Gonzaga for a semester before joining the Marine Corps and serving for many years in the Reserves. He then went on to work for Spokane International Railroad as a clerk and then for Southern Pacific Railroad as a claims agent. In 1983 he became head of the Claims Department. He continued as a claims manager at Union Pacific when they purchased SP and was transferred to Roseville, CA where he retired in 1999. It was then that he moved back to the Spokane area.

Floyd never gave up on his education and eventually earned his bachelors, masters and a law degree. He was honored for his work with the American Association of Railroads and was held in high esteem by his peers in the railroad claims industry.

Floyd was a member of Rotary, first in Bakersfield, CA and then in Deer Park. He was an Honorary Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of the Open Door Church where he served on the church council and with the board of trustees. He also took care of the church lawn for many years, at which time it was known as "Parker Park".

Special thanks are due to the staff at Pine Ridge for their care and attention of our dear loved one for the last year and a half. Also, great appreciation to Horizon Hospice which was there for Floyd and his family in the last few days of his life.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, September 15 at the Open Door Congregational Church, 205 N. Main St., Deer Park, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Open Door Church or to the Alzheimers Association, c/o Pine Ridge Care Center, 12009 E. Mission, Spokane Valley, WA 99206
