Mr. Donald Ward Thompson , age 74, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. He was born on May 6, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the son of Robert Thompson and Louis Ward. Don grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but eventually settled in Bremerton, Washington and Spokane, Washington where he lived and made his home.
Donald is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 38 years; his sons and daughters Michael Ward (Valerie) Thompson, Cheryl Anne (Max) Goralnik, Michael Joseph (Marjorie) Canciglia, Charles Anthony ( Evelyn ) Canciglia; and 10 grandchildren, Gavin, Hannah, Daniel, Samuel, Caleb, Eliana, Josiah, Isaac, Gabriella, and Ian. Don is preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Isabella Joy.
He joined the Navy after completing school and sought out his adventure. He served from 1962 to 1966 and was deployed during Vietnam. He settled in San Francisco, California and began his career with the Navy as a civilian at Hunters Point and then Puget Sound Naval Shipyards. Don retired from the Navy and started his own business in Bremerton, Washington making signs, which he loved. He lived his life pursuing his passions for family and friends; his talents at construction; and hobbies of diving, boating, and skiing. Don enjoyed most the love of his wife Joyce and their children and took great joy in all his grandchildren.
Services will be held to celebrate his life with those who knew him and loved him most. Donald was an honorable man and will be greatly missed by his wife, sons, daughters, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and dear friends.
