Donald Scott Dysart

April 26, 1965-May 30, 2021

A masterpiece of a human being: Donald Scott Dysart - cherished father, brother, husband, friend. He loved life; he enjoyed engaging in deep conversations. Without a doubt, people filled his cup and he centered his focus on spending time with them. He was also a master engineer, a skilled craftsman and a person that could fix anything. He walked into a room and he would leave it better than he found it. He had a knack for making everything he touched better. Donald was born in Spokane, Washington to Charles and Phyllis Dysart. His father, a stronghold in his life, built the family home in Deer Park and Donald moved there when he was 8 years old, where he grew up with his sister, Jeanie, and brother, David. His wife, Pamela, and their 2 children, Leslie and John, live there to this day. Donald participated in 4H and graduated from Riverside High School. He went to Eastern Washington University, served in Africa with the Peace Corps, got his Master's at the University of Idaho and spent time teaching in Korea. He was a homestay dad to children from Korea that wanted to learn English and American culture. He volunteered in Thailand with tsunami relief efforts. Always finding time to work on projects, he and his stepson Taemin collaborated until the day he died. He offered himself to people, loving and nurturing them with strength and perseverance. He dedicated his time to building things with his hands and working on team-building as a Challenge Course facilitator. Donald always challenged people to think for themselves and he maintained curiosity about life and death as he battled ALS. On May 30, 2021, he died peacefully at home, on the same deck where his children (Leslie and John) were born. Donald leaves behind his family, a village of friends and a crew of extended family who will miss him terribly. He called a circle, and built a community that will last beyond his lifetime. May we all hold onto the memories of laughter, joy and love that we shared with him. We love you Donald.

A celebration of life will be held on July 24, 2021 at 2pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church (4340 W. Whistalks Way, Spokane, WA 99224). We hope you will attend and share your memories of this incredible man with others.

In lieu of flowers, the best way to honor Donald is to find a piece of wood that looks cool, plant a tree, enjoy your garden, be kind to our earth... love each other.
