Obituary

Dean Reber Crump was born July 30, 1929 in Soda Springs, Idaho to Ethel Rosina Hopkins and Milo Nephi Crump He grew up on a wheat farm in Robin, ID and attended Idaho State College in Pocatello. He worked as a linotype operator and pressman for the Eastern Idaho Farmer. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as a Missionary in the Great Lakes Mission from June 1949 to June 1951. Upon returning home, he was drafted into the Army and was sent to Korea, where he served in the front lines. He was later assigned to drive an ambulance for the Seventh Division Medical Battalion. Returning home to Pocatello in 1953, he worked as a salesman for a Lincoln-Mercury auto dealer. He met and married Shirley Jeannine Jensen. They had three children, Denise, Debra, and David.

In 1954, he joined New England Mutual Life in Sacramento, CA as an agent. He moved to Spokane, WA in 1958 and was named Agency Manager in 1962. He retired as Agency Manager in 1979. He moved to San Diego CA still working with New England Mutual Life. He met and married Sharon McCombs in 1983. She brought two children, Greg and David, to their marriage. They moved to Loon Lake, WA (Deer Lake) in 1988, buying the old Mack's Landing/Mountain Shadows property on Deer Lake. Dean and Sharon spent the next 28 years building the Deer Lake Resort as a family get-a-way destination. They retired in 2016 turning over frontline management to their son, David McCombs.

Dean had a positive attitude and compassion for others. He loved his Savior and his family. He loved people and serving them was his life's delight. He loved the outdoors, traveling, horseshoes, singing and dancing. He died February 17, 2021 at his home on Deer Lake, Washington after a lengthy battle with dementia. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, 5 children, 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

There will be a grave side service at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery on Monday, March 8 th for family. In June, there will be a celebration of life held for family and friends at Deer Lake Resort. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer Association or Hospice of Spokane.
