Carmen Lee Hill, born June 9, 1941 in Spokane to Walter F. King and Agnes Imo Jean (Porter) King, passed away in her home March 24, 2024 surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dennis John Hill Sr., son D.J. Hill Jr. (Megan), daughter Tami Yager (Doug), grandchildren Dennis (Jack) Hill III and Sean, and her older sister Marlene Berry.

Carmen was born in Spokane and lived in both Clayton and Deer Park. She attended Deer Park High School ('59) and first met Denny by sitting on his lap in a car full of teens headed to Jackie and Mikey Hopkin's house to dance. Denny subsequently bought a horse instead of a car, because Carmen had a horse (Captain). Denny successfully swayed a little of Carmen's attention away from her life-long friend Verla Meyer (Don Meyer). Carmen, Verla and Rose were the Deer Park Cheerleaders. Carmen was an avid swim instructor and led the synchronized swim team.

The horse worked! Carmen married Dennis J. Hill Sr on Sept 2, 1962 at St. Mary's Church in Deer Park.  The couple later moved to the Seattle area where Dennis worked in the electrical industry.  Carmen worked for Merrill Lynch before her children were born and was the Secretary for North Seattle Alliance Church in Seattle for many years. She retired from working at King County Dept. of Adult Detention in 1996. Carmen was a long-time community volunteer, supporting the Childhood Hearing League and Campfire Girls. She taught children's Sunday School classes for multiple churches, vacation bible school, and provided prison ministry.

Upon retirement, she and Denny pursued HER dream to open an antique store, Carmen's Treasure Trove in Spokane as well as stores in the Wenatchee and Snohomish areas. This allowed Carmen and her driver Denny to visit every garage sale from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine. She and Denny finally retired from the antique businesses in 2002 and enjoyed being with kids and grandkids at the lake. They were generous in sharing their lake properties and BBQ grilling skills in Seattle and Loon Lake for many community, family and youth group parties and church baptisms.

In addition to her devotion to Jesus, Carmen was an avid estate sale shopper, decorator and redecorator. She helped friends and family with pricing antiques. Her lifetime hobbies included snow skiing, gardening, indoor plants, tole painting, ceramics, and cake decorating. She loved the water and boating as well as camping with her Eagle Scout husband, family and usually a posse of other youth.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, May 2nd at the Open Door Congregational Church, 205 N Main St., Deer Park, WA.  Reception to follow at the First Street Grill, 122 W. 1st St., Deer Park, WA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Carmen's name to the Open Door Congregational Church.
